The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.
Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
