This New Horror Film Is Now Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Relationship.

Consider this a challenge for long-term couples who appreciate scary movies: Settle in with your loved one and stream Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie recently had its streaming debut on the Hulu service. Outwardly, it could look like conventional biological terror, but within Together resides a deep meditation about our choices in loving one another.

A Directorial Debut Delving into Partnership Complexities

Together marks the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It stars Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, partners that have remained a couple for over ten years. United in marriage in real life in 2017, the actors contribute a particular energy to their portrayals, masterfully depicting both the joys and frustrations of a enduring union.

The story begins when the couple move from the metropolis to the rural area for Millie’s job. A somewhat stereotypical story element, admittedly, but that’s mostly where the conventions end. Together evolves into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the partnership as it is a body horror flick.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While hiking near their country house, a violent storm occurs, and Millie and Tim tumble into an underground cave. After being trapped overnight there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity begins influencing the duo. This force induces a otherworldly bond between them that goes exceeding emotional intimacy.

The entire film is a slow burn fright fest, weaving in bits of hallucinatory nightmares, unsettling (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and genuinely funny exchanges (sometimes amidst something disturbing). The director skillfully blends these components seamlessly and presents them in a gradually swelling atmosphere of fear.

Nuanced Portrayals

A great deal of Together is only the two lead actors, and they skillfully illustrate countless layers to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Her self-assurance and feeling of intimacy is suffering due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his unwillingness to pursue anything but his floundering music career gradually emerges.

In contrast, Tim's character feels trapped and separated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve moved to the country and distant from his network of friends. He dreads the concept of utterly sacrificing his individual identity in another person. This fear is amplified by the circumstance he does not operate a vehicle and needs Millie for getting around.

The director's cleverest decision in this movie avoids making Tim or Millie the clear bad guy.

The couple confront the sort of issues that come with most partnerships after ten years. Deep down, they continue to care for one another. They share moments of joy, offer support, and share intimately at times. But below this facade, there’s an inescapable undercurrent of doubt about their bond.

Thematic Depth

While the otherworldly presence in Together symbolize these anxieties of excessive reliance and fully committing to another person, the allegory does not come across as hamfisted or self-important. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments offer a brilliant analogue to the relationship narrative. Both the supernatural and the personal serve the other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s final act, which is best experienced firsthand, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. Accounts suggest that those not in relationships have seen the movie as a compelling reason for avoiding commitment. Meanwhile, some couples who were in conflict found that the film actually helped them resolve their issues.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own reaction could act as a revealing measure of how you think about commitment. Will the ending inspire feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a positive outlook on love? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and yell at the screen, or simply look at your partner and say, “We could get through that together”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an experiment you can embark on today.

Together is available to watch on the streaming service Hulu as of this moment.
