White House Seeks Help from Supreme Court Following Failed Attempt to Block Food Stamp Payment Directive
On Friday, just moments following a federal appeals court determined that the administration must pay for nutritional assistance payments, the White House sought intervention from the US top court in a further effort to block the ruling.
Within hours, the supreme court released an emergency order provisionally halting complete Snap food aid funds, which close to 42 thousand Americans depend on to feed their families.
“Legal counsel persist in battling, day and night, to protect and further our policies,” the top legal officer stated on social media around 9:30pm ET.
Government representatives had petitioned the appellate court to overturn a court ruling mandating they provide November’s entire nutritional assistance during a government funding lapse, and faced refusal later the same day.

The top court's order came after the government requested a national appeals court last Friday to block a judicial directive that it distribute this month's entire Snap aid during a government funding lapse.
Subsequent to that appeal to block was denied, the White House appealed to the supreme court in a further bid to block the ruling to fully fund Snap food aid disbursements.
